Also at the new Berlin airport BER, passengers and luggage will be controlled by Securitas. The security service provider has won a tender.

The Securitas Aviation division has won the contract for passenger and luggage controls at Berlin Airports. The contract was awarded by the Beschaffungsamt des Bundesministeriums des Innern (Federal Interior Ministry Procurement Office) within the framework of a public tender. The tendered service was the performance of passenger and luggage controls at Berlin Airports in accordance with paragraph 5 of the Luftsicherheitsgesetz (German Aviation Security Act ) at Berlin Airports – so this applies to Berlin-Tegel (TXL), Schönefeld (SXF) and the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

"The award of the contract to Securitas Aviation is for us a sign of trusting and partnership-based cooperation. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead and are expecting the opening of BER and the associated relocation to the capital airport with great motivation," says Andy Matthias Müller, Managing Director of Securitas Aviation in Germany, commenting on the tender that has been won.

"This award reflects our great expertise that we have acquired - nationally and internationally - over more than two decades in the field of aviation security," says Herwarth Brune, CEO Securitas Germany. "We continue to invest in our personnel and technology to make air travel safe and controls as smooth as possible."

In 2018, Berlin Airports had around 34.7 million passengers. This was a record, and the trend continues to rise: During the Berlin summer holidays alone, five million passengers were handled at the two airports for the first time. Berlin was the third largest airport location in Germany in 2018. Passengers and their luggage have been controlled by Securitas at Berlin Airports since 1996. As part of these security checks, passengers and luggage are checked for prohibited and dangerous objects on behalf of the German Federal Police. With contracts at eleven German airports in nine German Bundesländer (federal states), Securitas is a strong and reliable service provider for the aviation industry. Internationally, the Securitas Aviation division is present in 34 countries at 230 airports with about 25,000 specially trained employees

Securitas is training aviation security assistants (m/f/d) for deployment at Berlin Airports with a view to the opening of BER. In Schönefeld, a separate training center was established for this purpose. Further information:
