Securitas starts to perform controls at Köln/Bonn Airport

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

The preparation phase is over. Right on time – on April 1st – the security service provider Securitas will start to perform staff and goods controls at Köln/Bonn Airport, both in the terminals and at gate Z0. The Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH had awarded the contract – the so-called Los 1 (lot 1) – in November.

For the first time, Securitas has won an invitation to tender for part of the staff and goods controls. Moreover, the company will check boarding passes and provide further security services at Köln/Bonn Airport. The contract runs until spring 2021. In future, more than 110 Securitas employees will be employed at Köln/Bonn Airport – a number tending to increase. To date, only 17 Securitas employees were employed at this site. In accordance with customer requirements, a staff and technology concept has been developed, which takes into account as many employees of the previous service providers as possible, as well as the Securitas employees who already work at Köln/Bonn Airport. The awarded lot 1 has a different volume and implies higher quality demands than before. "That was a complex situation involving many stakeholders," says Ilona Martinov, Manager Aviation Region Süd. "Quality and qualification were our primary goals," she said. "We hired additional staff, we provided training and – as desired by the customer – we ensured a balanced representation of men and women in our team for Köln/Bonn Airport," she added. During the recruitment process, the demand for security staff could be met quickly; the search for qualified aviation security control officers, however, took a little longer. "By now, we are well positioned, well prepared and ready for 'takeoff'," said the Securitas team at the airport.

"Quality is of particular importance to us – both with respect to our employees and our integrated solutions. The award of such a new contract is seen by us as a sign of confidence in our nationwide security services," said Dirk Fischlein, Manager of the Aviation segment in Germany. As one of the aviation security service providers with the highest number of employees within the Federal Association of German Security Companies (BDSW, Bundesverband der Sicherheitswirtschaft), Securitas Aviation employs approx. 3000 experts in Germany. Securitas Aviation offers integrated solution concepts, invests in security technology and has explosive detection dogs which have been certified by the German Federal Aviation Authority.
