Securitas wins prevention prize for fire drone

Tuesday, December 11, 2018

The VBG (Verwaltungs-Berufsgenossenschaft) prevention prize has been awarded for the seventh time: In Hamburg, Securitas Fire & Safety was among the ten prize winners; it was already the second time for the company to win the prize. Two years ago, Securitas had already received the award in the health management category.

This year (2018), Securitas was able to convince the jury in the "operational safety technology" category with its innovative fire-fighting drone. Axel Leyendecker, Managing Director of Securitas Fire Control + Service GmbH & Co. KG, and Ronny Schwarz, Area Manager, accepted the award at the ceremony held at the Sofitel Hotel Hamburg on December 5th. "We are very pleased that this innovative security solution has received such great recognition," said Leyendecker in Hamburg.

The Securitas drone system was developed with the objective of making everyday work easier and more secure for the firefighters. In the event of fire or explosion hazards, the Securitas fire drone can perform the first exploration tasks in the accident area without any staff members being endangered. Via a built-in camera, the drone can already deliver first live images, even before the security forces arrive. Thanks to the integrated temperature and gas sensors, the drone can provide information about the fire sources, victims and escaping gases even in poor visibility conditions caused by smoke. In parallel, this information is also transmitted to the approaching vehicle of the emergency line. The result: increased self-protection and important gain in time for rescue and extinguishing measures.

As a trade association, the VBG is the largest statutory accident insurance provider in Germany. The prevention prize, which has been awarded by the VBG every two years since 2006, shall highlight best practice examples of occupational health and safety as motivation and encouragement for other companies.
