Tuesday, December 10, 2013
Today the Beschaffungsamt des Bundesministeriums des Innern (Federal Interior Ministry Procurement Office) announced, after assessing all bids received, that Securitas will be awarded the contract for passenger and baggage control at the Berlin airports.
Once again, Securitas Aviation wins the tender for passenger control at the Berlin airports: Berlin-Tegel (TXL), Schönefeld (SXF) and Berlin Brandenburg (BER). For another six years, Securitas will perform aviation security control services for the competent federal police authority – the Bundespolizeidirektion Berlin (Federal Police Directorate of Berlin) – in accordance with § 5 of the German Aviation Security Act (LuftSiG, Luftsicherheitsgesetz).
The Securitas Aviation Team is fully familiar with the particularly sensitive aviation security tasks and the special challenges at the Berlin airports. After successful years of good collaboration, Securitas considers itself to be optimally prepared for the continued provision of reliable, customer- and service-oriented aviation security tasks from 1st April 2014 onwards.
"We are very pleased with the confidence placed in us. This year, the high quality of our services has already been confirmed by official audit teams of the "Nationale Qualitätskontrollstelle für die Luftsicherheit (NQS)" (national quality control office for aviation security) during full audits at both Berlin airports. Today's news about the award of the contract rounds off a year that has been extremely demanding, but in the end also successful for all those involved," summarizes Dirk Fischlein, Managing Director Securitas Aviation.
Securitas Aviation is one of the aviation security service providers with the largest workforce within the Federal Association of German Security Companies (BDSW); it performs effective and efficient security and service tasks at all significant airports.
With approx. 25 million passengers per year (upward trend), the Berlin airports constitute the third-largest airport location in Germany. At present, there are two airports: Schönefeld airport in the southeastern part of Berlin, and Berlin-Tegel airport located a couple of miles northwest of Berlin's city center. For the future, the new Berlin Brandenburg airport (IATA-Code: BER) is currently being built at the Schönefeld location.
