The task: Safety in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry
Chemical production requires compliance with the highest international environmental and safety standards. "Security is of utmost importance here. That is why we need a competent service provider like Securitas," Dr. Michael Polk of the site-management company Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH points out.
The solution: Successful operator model for the plant fire brigade
Securitas has developed the "operator model" which outsources the plant fire brigade. The security service provider invests in the operation of the fire brigade, i.e. it owns all the technology – including movable and real property. This includes two modern fire stations with eleven fire engines and special purpose vehicles, protective equipment, a monitoring center, several specialist workshops, as well as fitness and social rooms.
The Securitas plant fire brigade in Bitterfeld is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. Twenty-four hours a day, 19 employees perform preventive and protective fire safety measures at the 1200-hectare premises. The center coordinates an average of about 450 operations per year, e.g. technical assistance like boiler inspections and works on pipe bridges, but only 15 times a year the Securitas employees move out to fight the fire.
Thanks to fire safety training and exercises, the 65 full-time Securitas fire brigade experts can keep their knowledge up-to-date.
The customer benefit: Securitas competence in security
The chemical site benefits from the well-equipped and qualified plant fire brigade which is always ready to intervene. The fire brigade services are optionally available to all companies located at the Chemiepark.
Inexpensive & long-term reliability in planning
"Securitas presently works for 40 companies located at the Chemiepark, which together produce 95% of the total added value of the site. The payment amounts to only a fraction of the costs of an internal fire brigade. Thus, we benefit from a long-term reliability in planning. Each company can pay full attention to its core business."
